We just experimented with white. If you look, the paper is bent over the wire. This gives it a leafy shape. All that's left is to trim the frills in the leaf(I can't remember what they're really called). Ta-Da! Now all you have to do is make about 4 or 5 more of those. Depending on how wide the carpet roll is. My troop is going to layer more filly paper on the trunk to make it look like bark, this paper will be brown though. I'll edit this post and add a photo when the tree is complete. Have fun with this please, and tell more people about my blog!

Palm Trees
In Girl Scouts we've been working with making decorations for our
father-daughter dance. The theme? Hawaii. We can up with the idea of
making palm trees(flat ones and 3D ones). We thought of making trees out
of balloons, in fact that was the first idea, and then our troop leader
came up with the idea(she found this somewhere on the internet)that we
make palm trees with carpet rolls. The leaves? Also quite simple. Take a
bent coat hanger, get some green paper, fold the paper in half, cut it
to the shape of a palm leaf, cut small frills, tape it to the wire.
Here's what it looks like.
